Due to the popularity of kayaking, it is highly recommended that you reserve your boats ahead of time.

Solo paddlers must know how to recover from a capsize in-order to rent a boat and paddle unaccompanied.

Getting Ready to go Kayaking

Once you’ve reserved your boat(s), plan to arrive Kayak Centre at least 20 minutes before your reserved time, especially if you are coming down on a sunny summer weekend.

What to Bring

Dress for the weather and be prepared to be active and comfortable.

Know Your Limits

Before setting out on your journey you must first consider your personal limits and those of the group in which you paddle. Ask yourself these questions:

  • How far will you go?
  • How long will you be paddling for?
  • What type of environmental factors will affect your paddle such as wind and or tides?
  • Do you have the skills to land at a destination and launch again?
  • Do you have the skills to handle a capsize situation?

Through education and experience paddlers can become more aware of their personal limits, keeping them safer on the water and making the time spent much more enjoyable. Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak offers a wide range of educational courses that will fast track you to becoming a safer paddler. Accidents do happen and people do capsize. Don’t become a statistic because you didn’t know.

To ensure your safety, we enforce the following policies:

  • There is a two hour minimum on all rentals.
  • Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your reservation time to complete payment, waivers and prepare to paddle.
  • All paddlers must sign a waiver and provide a drivers license and credit card as a deposit.
  • Paddlers under the age of 19 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Solo paddlers must be able to properly explain a solo paddle float rescue.
  • Maximum three people per canoe.
  • Maximum one person per seat in kayaks.
  • An animal counts as one person.
  • An adult must accompany a person under the age of 16 on the water and have capsize recovery experience.
  • Our hours of operation are subject to change without notice due to inclement weather or other safety hazards that may arise.
  • Life jackets must be worn at all times while on the water.
  • Allow plenty of time for parking particularly during the busy summer months.

Rentals Reservation Cancellation Policy

48 hours notice is required to cancel a reservation. There is a $15 cancellation penalty per boat per day for less than 48 hours notice. This policy is flexible if we are not completely booked. However, if we are turning away customer’s to hold boats that you decide to cancel within the 48 hour period, you will be charged the cancellation fee. Your rental period begins from the start time of your reservation. Please ensure you arrive well in advance to park and complete the registration process. Remember, parking can be limited and the Kayak Centre is often quite busy. If you are late for your reservation, or do not allow yourself enough time to complete the registration process, we will make every attempt to extend your booking. However, we may not be able to accommodate this when people are booked immediately after you. If this is the case, we will charge you for the booked time. Do not arrive only 5 minutes prior to your reserved rental time! Add 5% GST to all rental rates. Pricing subject to change without notice.
