Getting Ready to go Kayaking
Once you’ve reserved your boat(s), plan to arrive Kayak Centre at least 20 minutes before your reserved time, especially if you are coming down on a sunny summer weekend. Dress for the weather and be prepared to be active and comfortable. Before setting out on your journey you must first consider your personal limits and those of the group in which you paddle. Ask yourself these questions:
- How far will you go?
- How long will you be paddling for?
- What type of environmental factors will affect your paddle such as wind and or tides?
- Do you have the skills to land at a destination and launch again?
- Do you have the skills to handle a capsize situation?
Through education and experience paddlers can become more aware of their personal limits, keeping them safer on the water and making the time spent much more enjoyable. Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak offers a wide range of educational courses that will fast track you to becoming a safer paddler. Accidents do happen and people do capsize. Don’t become a statistic because you didn’t know.
